Question low temps in Summer

I'm just curious how cool others growing orchids in their homes keep the temperature in the Summer? The coolest my orchids get in the house is 68*-70*. Is this okay? Some time in October the evenings will start to cool down outside and I can get them down to 62*-65*. I realize some of this depends on the type of plants (I have Phals., Paphs., a Brs. and a Brsdm.) Whatever the temps outside are is what I get from now until October sometime - no air conditioning. Your orchids should do fine with those temps. Mine are often significantly warmer than that during the summer months and seem to actually thrive in it - especially the phals. I do tend to blow air in through the windows in the evening which will help cool things down to low 60's or even high 50's part of the time. mike

mid 60s for phals should be ok. however they will grow much better above the 70s.

It should not be a problem except the Phals like a temperature drop to initiate flowering.

I recommend putting them outside (or a coll room or hall) to get a 15-20 degree differential between night and day temperatures.

All my non-blooming orchids stay outside from May until sometime in Oct. Night time temps are generally in the mid 50's. When the temps dip below 50 during the night time hours I bring most of them in. Works for me.
