Oncidiums

Hello everyone,
I have a question. All of my orchids are doing great, but I'm curious about my Lava Burst oncidium and my Twinkle Fragrance fantasy Oncidium. As SOON as the Lava burst's blooming was done it shot out new growths from the old growths. they are now starting to aquire their own roots. I guess my question is, from the time the new growths start, when will they bloom? how will you know if the new growth's psuedobulb is in fact ripe/capable of producing a spike ? I know they will swell, but any other indicators?
Thanks
Chris

I've only grown a small number of these smaller Oncidium hybrids. My best producer was Odontocidium Susan Kaufman. It would go from new shoot to bloom about every 6 months or so. It bloomed 3 times for me before expiring suddenly (I'm still not sure why).

I would look at the last growth that bloomed. That will be about how big the new growths will have to get to bloom. i suspect it will take no longer than a year, possibly as little as 6 months.

Yes, it may take up to a year before the new growths produce spikes/blooms.

I have an Onc. Popcorn 'misty pink' which started a new growth about 6 months or so ago. So far, I don't see any sign of spiking, yet. I believe it's due to our fluctuating weather the last few months. So it's confused at the moment. LOL
