one more new orchid and a question

I picked out my final birthday orchid today, a Brassidium, Brsdm. Longelens 'Bill Switzer'. Below are pictures. My new Brassidium has full, plump pseudobulbs, no wrinkles. My new Brassius has a few wrinkles in its pseudobulbs and the flowers have gotten very droopy in the heat over about 80*, is this a sign of dehydration? I know it sounds stupid, but I've only had Phals up until now and I'm having to learn new watering routines. Thanks, Lisa

Lisa,
Very pretty!! I have 1 Brsdm. shooting star which I have had for awhile. I have
mine in a east window (Don't keep it outside). They like light but not as much
as a Catt or Dendrobium. Where outside are you keeping yours. They need to
be moderately wet. Not as much as a Phal or Paph, but more than a Catt or
Dend.

Lisa, it's beautiful. I just saw these oncidiums at Home Depot yesterday and have been thinking (obsessively) about going back for one. They were in 10" pots, $25.00. I know this was one of your birthday gifts but do you happen to know what the cost was?

Hello Lisa,

the Brassia and Brassada hybrids in my office windowsill require a lot more water than the Phals, approx twice as often, at least when in growth. I suspect it will be similar with the Brassidium.

It is too bad our Home Depot ,Canada does not carry those. They have a garden section in each store but as far as orchids are concerned they only carry Phals.( at least I have not seen any other orchids).

In other places those will cost anywhere between $40-80 cdn.

prisana, Home Depot (Delray Beach) had soooooo many of these yesterday, in bud, just beginning to bloom for $25 and about 20 cattleyas, 12 inch pots, various colors for $30. They were all magnificent. Hurry!

price of Brassidium

Sandra, I actually purchased the Brassidium with a gift card from a local Gourmet shop. This one was 39.50. Sounds like a good deal at HD, if it has good roots. My HD has to many orchids with root rot. Lisa

Tobi, why not put Brs./Brsdm. outside? I have a shaded front porch that gets lots of light (1500 fc-3500 fc)for most of the day. My Phals really like it. My indoor setup ranges from 500 fc- 2000fc depending on the time of day.

Lisa,
the reason I don't put them outside is that I just open all my windows in my
4 season room and I get the full effect of outdoors without the bugs. Plus I
have many very large windows with different filtered light.
