an update, a trip to the orchid Dr. and pictures :)

I spoke to the grower that I got my first orchid from and he confirmed what all of you wonderful and knowledgable people said first. I'm not watering that one enough.
Interestingly, he said that he was almost sure that 'that' orchid was a Phal. amabilis.
I read another post about species vs. hybrids and that may explain why I seem to be killing this orchid but the other one is thriving and blooming even after re-potting and trimming the rotted roots.

I think I have contracted orchidphilia however.
Symptoms include reading everything that I can get my hands on about orchids, staring glossy eyed and slack jawed at amazing pictures of orchids and talking obsessivly about them.
A trip to my orchid Dr. was in order.
I'm attaching pictures of the two lovely phals that have joined my family.
I hope to add some new varieties soon. He says that he'll have some new ones in next week.

I was amazed at how little I got these two for.
The pink one ( label reads Phal. Nagoya (white) - I don't think that's what it is.

The second one's label reads, "P.Baldan's Kaleidoscope "Golden Treasur" AM/AOS"
I think that tag may be correct.

Oh Atriel congratulations I am fairly jealous over that Baldan's. Such a beauty, on my list of course lol. As for the orchid obsession, I have the same exact symptoms and look like a doofus in front of computer. I think I even drooled once. Sorry I thought when I went into this one it was Sandra's post, I edited, I got into too much of a hurry.

They take on the form of little birds, of lizards, of insects, a man, a woman, sometimes like a clown who excites our laughter. They represent the image of a lazy tortoise, a melancholy toad, an agile, ever-chattering monkey. Nature has formed orchid flowers in such a way that, unless they make us laugh, they surely excite our greatest admiration." Jacob Breynius

There is a great deal of variation in the offspring of these complex Pal hybrids. The hybridizer probably expected the majority of the offspring of this coss to be white and so added that to the tag. It is possible that the tag could be correct in so far as having the correct name.

Nice Photographs.

I have one similar to the P. Baldan. I never knew the right name until now since it did not have an ID tag.

Thanks.

Thanks so much everyone
Everyone is holding up well.
The skewer method for watering is absolutely perfect.

What amazed me the most was how little I got these for.

The Phal. Nagoya was only $22 and the P.Baldan was $27.
I'm still really pleased about the prices.

Thanks again!
