Heat & Orchids I have some of my orchids outdoors right now in a shaded area of the patio. I'm a little concerned about the high temperatures for the next three or four days - suppose to be in the 90's, high humidity and little breeze. If I bring them indoors, I'm afraid they might not like the cold air conditioning or the extreme temperature change. It's only 9:00 a.m. and already 80F. What do you folks do when it gets this warm?

My experience is they do fine. I have had days in high 90's or low 100's with little effect on orchids (we usually have 2-4 weeks per summer total with anywhere from 3-5 days in a row like this). Keep them adequately watered early in the morning before the sun gets up too high. Keep them out of direct mid day sun. Otherwise I expect they will fare better than people do with it.

Thanks Mike. I'm watering early and none of them are in any sun. I think you're right - I probably won't survive the heat for the next 5 days.

sharyn, can you say " HOT" again ? I even find myself sometimes walking around with a mister in my hands , even if it's humid out, misting them lightly on the leaves...it makes ME feel better, don't know if made that big of a difference for my 'chids.
