| How Long Do Paphs Flowers Last ? The second flower has opened on my Paph Prime Child and it made me wonder how long their flowers last. I don't ever remember seeing any posts discussing this topic before.

| Anton, Back on 5/23/07 I posted a pic of my Paph Callo-day x glaucophyllum. It had been in bloom only a few days. Today it is about a month old and still going strong. The next bud on it has begun to swell. It depends a little on the kind of Paph, but I think 6-8 weeks is about typical.

| Anton, I bought a Paph maudiae 'red' a couple of weeks before Christmas, I don't know how long it had been blooming at the nursery , but I had that bloom for me until almost the end of March, but then the whole plant promptly died on me from rot I didn't know how to care for it very well. Hope yours last a long long time.. |

| I went down to the GH this morning, it was 2C walking accross the lawn which Jack Frost was visiting, but the GH was a warm and cosy 20C. I quickly took a pikkie my Paph Prime Child, rather than taking out in the cold, so that's why the first photo isn't of a high quality (which you all expect) Although not of the same subject, I decided to photograph the first bloom of my newly aquired Rossioglossum grande (formally known as Odontoglossum), or commonly known as the Tiger Orchid. Isn't it beautiful??!! I took it inside and photographed it with my Twinkle 'Fragrant Fantasy' because photographing it in the GH didn't do it justice, so it is now residing in the lounge room keeping Twinkle company. ![]()

| Photo 101 Tip Set your camera on "Fluorescent Tube" setting, or Incandescent Globe, put the camera on a tripod, or rest on something to keep the camera very still. Activate the "Timed Exposure", push the button, and you have 10 seconds to line up your shot and let the camera take the picture. This way, you avoid camera shake from pushing the button manually. Shooting inside as you have probably experienced, will cause the camera to take a longer exposure, which means it is suseptable to camera shake (blurry images), so the timed exposure eliminates this, as all you have to do is hold the camera still and let the camera take the shot for you.

| I think use of a tripod is a very good suggestion. Somehow I never use it, though I have a mini and a maxi tripod. I try to rest the 'camera hand' on the other hand for long exposures. May be I will have to get into the habit of using it. Thanks for the tip. |
