Talking Info on Brassia wanted

I saw a Brassia today that just captivated me. I'd love any information about the needs of these orchid, expected prices for plants in bloom and suitability for a beginner. Also any websites that provide information would be helpful. Thanks, Lisa

Ah, the Spider Orchid!!. Brassia culture is similar to Cattleyas, but avoid letting
them dry out completely when in active growth. An orchid bark mix (perlite &
charcoal with some sphagnum moss is fine for growing. If grown indoors a
east to southeast window is preferable. Repot every other year. Good luck,
they are very rewarding when in bloom.

I have one and I love it. My flowers are green and brown. I treated it the same as my phals. Same light, same water and it did fine. The leaves are supposed to be lime green, so don't be confused. If they turn dark green like the phals, you won't get flowers because not enough sun. I made sure my brassia was in morning direct light through a window. The rest of the day was bright indirect light, northern exposure. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

I attached a few pictures of mine, I hope to see some of yours. I think they are beautiful plants. So unusual.

Brassia are members of the Oncidium alliance and their care is similar to other main-stream Oncidiums. Take a look at the oncidium culture sheet from the AOS (www.aos.org)
