| Amount of sun for vanda? Hey ya'll, I have a quick question about the amount of sun a vanda should be receiving. I have been growing a few Phal's, Cane Dendro's, and Catt's outside in a screen enclosure for awhile now with good results. I have recently acquired a few vandas to add to my collection, and they have been doing nicely, but I am not sure if they are getting as much sun as they would like. They are on the dark green side when what I have been told is that they should be more of a light green. They are growing new growth, and new roots - but no flower spikes yet. They start to get direct sun at around 4 in the afternoon with some palm tree leaves that can get in the way at certain times, all the way until sunset. (I live in the Florida Keys, so the sunlight is quite strong.) I am just curious if I should try and find a new place with some more sunlight, or if I should keep them put, and hope for the best? Any suggestions are much appreciated! |

| I have been told by many on this forum that vandas need a lot of sun, so you might want to move them to give them a bit more direct sun (just make sure it doesn't get too hot!) It also depends on what type of vanda and yadda-yadda-yadda, so my advice would be to try and get them some more direct sun. Jason |

| Hi, stragged, I live in Vero Beach, east coast north of Palm Beach. My three vandas are on the front porch facing due south. They hang just under the eave of the porch. Each one gets about 3 hours of direct sun either east or west, depending what side of the porch they hang. The rest of the day is bright indirect sun. I water them every morning by immersing them in a 5 gallon bucket. I leave them there until the little bubbles stop coming up, about 20 minutes or so. I mist with worm tea in the afternoon. They are very happy. Hope this helps.
