| Welcome to the Coelogyne orchids Vivienne Coel,s love to be pot bound even to the point of growing well over the pot. Coel mossiae is a highly scented orchid I dont have a Coel dayana so i found a link for you but I do know that this Coel does need to be hung as it has long pendant flower spikes. http://www.orchidenthusia.com/english/gallery_c.htm http://www.coelogyne.net/ http://www.orchidculture.com/COD/FREE/Coel_Art.html Coelogyne I hope this helps |

| Thanks so much Fred! I'm looking forward to these new plants blooming!! Just have to find the right place to hang the Coe. dayana. Can it be on a high shelf or is hanging the better way to go? Love all your Coelogyne!!! On the last pic with the pbulbs hanging outside the pot... are those the old bulbs being pushed out by new growth, or is that the newer growth? Orchids are SO cool! |

| You can place your ceol is on a shelf only when you get flower spikes could be the problem as they hang down. The Ceol that is hanging over the pot is a Falccida they grow the best allowed to grow over. I will take a few better pics for you as you are new to Celogyne,s so you can see how this plant grows. |

| Vivienne, You're following in my footsteps (whether intentionally or not). Another of my favorite genera is Coelogyne. I have probably about 20 different species and a copule of hybrids. i'll do a bit of work and post something helpful for you. -K

Thanks for all you do! Fred - Thanks for all the pictures! Looks like you have a big Coel collection as well. Is in an Aussie thing? |

| Quote] Is in an Aussie thing? No I dont think so they are just very nice orchids most are nicely scented as well. I am always on the hunt as we know but one of the first orchids I look for when I go looking for orchids are Celogyne,s |

| My Coelogyne have been doing some impressive growing. Thought I'd update some pics. When and where do the spikes/blooms come from? I did end up dividing the Coel. mossiae. Remember there was the one part that was really wobbily. When I repotted it it turned out to be a seperate root system... or it had already divided itself. Anyways, both divisions now have lots of new growths. The one pictured has 5 new growths... two are just starting to span out the leaves. (did that make sense?) The Coel. dayana has now been hung and is happily continuing it's new growths. They are each (7 in all) about 12" tall now. Last edited by Vivienne; 06-29-2007 at 08:46 AM. |

| Vivienne, In re-reading this thread I see I made a promise that I've not yet followed through on. My apologies. What species of Coel do you have?
