Split leaves on my Vanda

I just replanted my vanda into a lovely cedar vanda basket that my husband so painstakingly took the time to make! I put a little bit of sphagnum moss on the roots for a little moisture. I noticed this morning two of the leaves have split right down the middle, the rest are firm and I have been misting and keeping the roots moist everyday, why are the leaves splitting? Any help is appreciated!!!! Cindy aka Flowerchild

Cindy, I can't diagnos your problem, but I know my vanda leaves have split a little because they have been hit. I have them hanging on the porch between two posts. When the wind kicks up, they rub on the post and a few have split.

I have had this also, just keep an eye on them, dont wet the leaves, and keep the humidity a little lower, so they can heal up. i have strong, not too flexible wire to hold up my vandas, so i put the leaves inbetween them so they damaged ones will not get stretched and rip more.
