What did I do now?

Went on an outing with my daugher and had to stop by the local orchid shop. Rummaged through the 'not-in-bloom $5' room and found this. It's big! Nice fat pbulbs, new growths, bursting out of a 4" pot. No tag. Will be repotting tonight into a 5.5" pot.

So, what have I got on my hands now? LOL I'm thinking it's something like Vuyl. or Bllra. Feel free to smack me upside the head. I swear this is bad OCD.

Well you're certainly barking up the right tree, it's somethign in that neighboorhood. But, we won't be able to tell exactly until it blooms. There are a few of these crosses that have been mass produced so we may have a better chance than usual of id-ing the specific cross.

Get to growing it up (it looks like it is overflowing the pot so it may need repoting nto a larger pot) and post us a pic next time it blooms!

Oh, and GREAT BUY!! A tagged, in bloom plant that size would probably be in the $30-40 range.

Kevin... thanks! It is/was seriously overflowing. I did a pot-on into a 6 1/2" pot which should last 2 years. There are 3 growths (probably a year old, guessing) and 2 brand new growths. Hopefully it will bloom next year, or sooner.

BTW - you should see the Paph Susan Low. Looking good! I'll update that thread later tonight or tomorrow morning. I can tell you that the first bloom now has a natural spread of 22.5cm. The second bloom was 17.4cm yesterday.

Vivienne, yippee for Susan Low. looking forward to seeing the latest pic. Looking at your new plant I am wondering if it could be a Phaius? Maybe Kevin could comment on the possibility.

Bill, just posted an update on the Susan Low. I am a nervous wreck about it.

As for this new plant, I really don't have a clue. The pbulbs are huge, very nice, round, plump and smooth. I've never seen pbulbs like it before. It strikes me this morning that the leaves are very dark green... too little light?
Alas, only time will truly tell.

Hi Vivienne! I hope you're not losing sleep over the Susan Low. Taking plants for judging should be a fun enjoyable experience. Several folks I've talked to over the years say it was enjoyable and educational even if their plant was not awarded. It is an enjoyable thing to share the beauty of one's plant with others. Goodness knows we need all the kindness and beauty we can get these days. Showing and taking plants for judging is a little like a roller coaster. It's a bit of a thrill ride...will they? won't they? Enjoy the ride!

Kevin - a roller coaster is a good way to put it. It's thrilling! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!!!

fred - I looked up odontoglossum but got the impression that the pbulbs were flatter. Am I way off base?

Possibly, can't tell though until it blooms. I secretly suspect (although I'm not telling anyone in case I'm wrong) it is Beallara Marfitch "Howard's Dream" as this is one of the ones that have been mass produced as i mentioned in a previous post. Again though, there's simply no way to say for certain umtil it blooms.
