Hoping against hope...Can anyone ID this?

I bought this phal 8 months ago for $16. It was in miserable shape- only 2 leaves left and most of the roots were rotten. It was labeled Phal violacia x venosa Penang Girl. It was next to a bunch of other Penangs that were in bloom, and it's leaves look the same. However, now that it has bloomed it is clearly not a Penang girl! I realize that there are an almost infinite variety of phal hybrids out there and the chance of IDing this one is slim to none. But I'll try anyway

Well, at least you have a healthy NoID plant now instead of a sick one.

Well, I will take a stab at it and say it does look like it might be a violacea cross. I have seen Penang Girl in many different forms, but it doesn't look like any that I have seen. I think I might have seen something similar, but I am on my way to work, so I will have to research it when I get home. Good luck, maybe one of the experts will know for sure. Maybe a Penang Girl x ?

I am inclined to agree with you that yourPhal is not Penang Girl. Neither venosa nor violacea contributes small red spots to their offspring. Also both venosa and violacea have pointed petals and sepals. I was initially inclined, based on the shape of the lip, to think your plant has a lare dose of violacea in it somewhere, but other Phal species (like venosa) have similar lips so I'm not so sure about even that.

It's great how you brought this plant back from the brink. The new growths and roots look healthy. Being a noid doesn't make it any less pretty. Enjoy it!

Cheers
