MY stuartiana buds are dying!!!

OOPS I meant Phal parishii!!!! i dont know whats wrong with my head right now.........

I just got this Phal at an orchid show about a month ago. I have it outside(Tampa,FL),north facing, and it gets misted once a day. This past week Ive noticed that the buds are yellowing and dying and the 2 leaves are shriveling a bit. I have NO IDEA what to do. The roots dont look that great either. I REALLY like this plant and want to save it. Please any advice?

How heavy is the misting? It looks rather wet to me, i would give it a day off from watering unless it really is drying out. THe mount its on could be retaining alot of water.

I dont know what it like in florida, but if you feel the leaves and there warm, then the plant is too hot and needs either better air movement or a more shaded spot.

I mist it until water is dripping thru the mount. But by the end of the day its dry. The air quality is good as my walkway to my front porch is surrounded by buildings, so it gets a wind tunnel effect. I am FREAKING OUT..... I was reading about them just now it and one site says high moisture in growing season.....

I've not mounted any phals/orchids - but the leaves indicate lack of moisture - you may need to mist it more often, soak for awhile, etc. to increase its moisture level? mike

Since the roots look healthy to me I suspect the withering leaves are a result of lack of moisture. Please note: lack of mositure does not necessarily mean water more. I understand that mounted Phals need high humidity. I know Florida is humid. Do you know what percent your humidity is outside where oyu have the phal?

It looks as if it might have been recently mounted on the tree fern - the roots are not really gripping the mount as they would if it had been growing on it for a long time. It could be that the process of adapting to the mount and your conditions is stressing the flowers. I'm not a big fan of tree fern for mounting phals - I prefer cork. I think it takes longer for the roots to adapt to tree fern - no idea why. Tree fern dries out really quickly if the weather is warm, so watering daily is probably fine. You might try soaking the whole plant and mount in water just to give it a boost. The flowers on your plant are really nice. An interesting thing about Phal parishii is that when the flowers are pollinated they turn a yellow-orange color. Instead of shriveling, they stay fresh looking for over a month, so the same plant can have white and orange flowers on it.

So when/if it perks back up, should i re-mount it on something different?like after its done flowering? Because I am also not keen on the tree fern crap either. It.......... irritates me. And actually the roots dont look that great for the camera is deceiving. The roots are getting kinda shrively...
i know this isnt orchid related, but its member related......brookn, i love your doggie!!! what is he/she?

He is a natural eared, mantle great dane named Rance. I call him Lance also. I have four danes his mom Mirranova, his sister Bling Bling, and his cousin a harlequin named Buzz. I wrote about Rance in the thread I Can Do Clouds. I think your Husky? is pretty cute too.

I found the problem. it was lack of moisture. i hung my parishii from its hook, in a bucket with my fogger in it, and Voila! the leaves are plumping back up, and the roots are getting green again. I didnt know these little buggers needed THAT HIGH of humidity......guess Florida air wasnt cuttin it....

Blksunshine, perhaps it was the wind tunnel effect in your hallway creating the problem. The wind is not our friend here. My vandas outside are needing watering twice a day. Can't wait until the wind stops. THEN we will have humidity....
