i would give it a little water; wait a couple weeks; give it some more, then slowly start back to your regular watering sched. mine started sprouting flowers off the old cane before xmas; those are now blooming, with the newest cane in high bud and a baby cane about three inches high. i went back to weekly watering around MLK day i think. everything's due to be fertilized this weekend, so i'll probably start back with the fert on this one too.

I also think it's time to give it a little water. Things are starting to happen for these dends.

I believe that your VF 'Luna' is a Yamamoto nobile type den. You don't treat this like a non-Yamamoto nobile. It doesn't need the hard dry to bloom and doesn't want it. Quit fertilizing at the end of July and cut back - don't stop - watering in November. I have 4 Yamamotos and for the past couple of months have watered them once per week by soaking them for a half hour. Then, direct sun. All are budding up and down. During the summer, water almost every day. Note that this is for tropical (Florida, Hawaii, California for example) conditions.

Thank you E-Jag, you were right. It is a Yamamoto den. And now that I know, hopefully I'll have better luck with it next year. It certainly seemed to grow well, so now I just need to work on the flowering. -Bob |

I have similar questions. I have a Den. Spring Doll. It just finished blooming on a leafless cane but also has another cane with green leaves growing on it. Do I stop watering now becausee blooming has finished or do I keep watering because there is still a cane with green leaves growing? Also, how can you tell when the D. is matured so that you can restrict watering.
