Nobile-type Den watering/rest

This is my Den. Violet Fizz 'Luna.' I've resisted the (strong) urge to water it, since the middle of November, like it needs. The canes in the middle, which I thought were old and done are now showing growth, which I assume are buds, or possibly keikis. The two outer canes (which are the the ones that grew out at an angle) lost the leaves on the bottom half of the canes, but the top half leaves still look good - so I guess it's not supposed to lose them? - and they are showing no signs of nodes from the canes.

Now my questions are:
Does the new growth flower or do they grow this year and bloom next?

And, the second picture shows growth from the base of the cane, the other new cane has the same thing. I assume this is a new cane forming, and if so, that's when I should start re-watering, right? when new growth appears...
Do I start full-on watering now, or wait til the canes start to develop more? And will this affect the formation of more flower buds, as I know that watering at the wrong time leads to keiki production.

-Bob

i would give it a little water; wait a couple weeks; give it some more, then slowly start back to your regular watering sched. mine started sprouting flowers off the old cane before xmas; those are now blooming, with the newest cane in high bud and a baby cane about three inches high. i went back to weekly watering around MLK day i think. everything's due to be fertilized this weekend, so i'll probably start back with the fert on this one too.

I also think it's time to give it a little water. Things are starting to happen for these dends.

I also think its about time spring is almost here (next month officially) the once a 2 week or everyother week if that makes better sense is what I've been doing with mine also but mine has 8 seed capsuls so I've been giving sips and watching it closely....

I believe that your VF 'Luna' is a Yamamoto nobile type den. You don't treat this like a non-Yamamoto nobile. It doesn't need the hard dry to bloom and doesn't want it. Quit fertilizing at the end of July and cut back - don't stop - watering in November. I have 4 Yamamotos and for the past couple of months have watered them once per week by soaking them for a half hour. Then, direct sun. All are budding up and down. During the summer, water almost every day. Note that this is for tropical (Florida, Hawaii, California for example) conditions.

Thank you E-Jag, you were right. It is a Yamamoto den. And now that I know, hopefully I'll have better luck with it next year. It certainly seemed to grow well, so now I just need to work on the flowering.

I have similar questions. I have a Den. Spring Doll. It just finished blooming on a leafless cane but also has another cane with green leaves growing on it. Do I stop watering now becausee blooming has finished or do I keep watering because there is still a cane with green leaves growing? Also, how can you tell when the D. is matured so that you can restrict watering.
