Question Phrag. Garren Weaver hybrid

Hi Guys

I just bought this Beautiful my first Phragmipedium Garren Weaver.
It looks very healthy. I live in Denmark so it's either going to be in the window or under HPS lamp. I have both south and north turned windows.

Is it time to replant`?
What would you do to this ? - i kinda like the idea of growing with clay pellets.
(The photo of the flower is not from my plant, but from the seller on Ebay - im sure others must have bought one of these too - let me hear how you keep it healthy.

Thanks
Michael

Very beautiful Michael!
Welcome to the forum, glad to have you join. I don't grow phrags, but I am sure someone will come along who does, and can help you

Wow that's quite the beauty !!
I don't know how tempermental they are in bloom but I have a nice little collection of Phrags started. I would wait to re pot after the bloom has passed first don't want to shorten its bloom period shocking the roots. Some may say its ok to but me I'd wait. You need a really deep pot also for these and I'd. Only go up maybe one size.

I've not grown them in clay pellets or LECA/Hydroton. Mine are in a bark like Coir mix and some o have in Fine bark, charcoal, perlite with a bit of coir in there.
Some types I have are in dishes of water ones with caudatum in their linage I grow along with the Paphs (no dish) just keep them moist and I use distilled water only on all my Phrags. Tap yellows and brows the leaf tips. I don't have this issue at all using the distilled water.
Good luck ith yours

Ah - off course. That's great advice - thanks. Gives a lot of sense and i will see flowers earlier.
I use rain water to water mine. They seem to like it a lot even though i think i could feed all my orchids more. I just experienced that it is so much easier to overfeed plants than underfeed generally.... probably should get a little more into that. Will check out to make some plant food myself.. havent's studied this at all, but i'm sure there's recipes.
Do you never adjust ph-value of the water? - i just thought the orchids like it a little acidic?

Anyways - thank you very much for your answers - i will check your profile to hopefully see some of your flowers/plants.

Sincerely
Michael

Hi Michael and welcome, your roots look beautiful and the plant doesn't look like it needs a repot right now. If the bark is smelling decomposed or sour then yes. Beautiful flower also!

Phrags should be repotted once a year, either after blooming is finished or in Spring.

I have a phrag that I bought as a seedling and 7 years later I think it is finally going to bloom. I thought it was compact, but a few weeks ago I re planted it in lava rock in s/h and it began to grow at an amazing rate! It really seems to love s/h. I don't know what this one will look like because the grower couldn't remember which 2 he crossed. It is labeled ?

Hehe - yes that is a long waiting time 7 years. Not quite that patient yet, so i guess i'm going to just buy older plants for now to get to see more flowers in a single life time
Im going to try s/h. That's just ... like growing in leca nuts with like an inch of water in the tray all the time right? - i was thinking... how would they like true hydro where roots grow into a bigger tray and water containing air bubles? - just thinking about the lack of oxygene in s/h? - anyways - will look s/h up and see how that works. Thanks

I don't think that lack of oxygen is a problem. The holes that are an inch up from the bottom allow for exchange of gasses and there are plenty of air pockets in between the clay pellets or lava rock. Many people have been growing this way for years with good results.
