Growing moss on mounts!

Hi After seing the mounts on Brookes Mounted Orchids I decided to try and Growing moss on my Cork mounts!
There is a fair amount of different types of moss and as I found some growing on the walls of my ponds under the orchid benches (see last photo) I decided to use this.
I chopped it up as fine as I could and mixed in in full streangh week old cows milk. Making a fairly thick paste.
Then I spread it over the cork as best as I could see photos.
These cork pieces are about 12 X 14 inches or so each piece
first is untouched cork.

Milk or Beer was recomended as it is acid, seems moss needs an acid base to grow.
I chose milk as I am not a beer drinker and milk was in the fridge.
will try to keep you all updated on this experiment, seems it may take upto six months for the moss to grow and thicken up.

Eventually I hope to try and mount some of my Phal. gigantea seedling on them.

Most interesting experiment, Ron. Do keep up posted. I've always greatly admired Brooke's mossy mounts, as well.
Cheers,
Tony

Yes, keep us posted. Would love to know how this turns out! Actually now that I stop and think about it, there is one small area in my yard that grows moss. Can't do anything now with winter, but will have to remember in the spring when the weather warms up. Wonder if I can use some of that moss? Hmmm

What growing conditions are you using, Ron? Also how often do you water?

We have moss growing in various parts of our property, but everytime I try and 'transplant' a piece, it eventually dies.

This is in my Phallie house, most ofent 30C+ and I try to keep the humidity above 50% with 2 misting systems

The moss is growing on the cement wall around my 2 ponds under the orchids benches, they are about 2 inches deep 1.2 meters wide and 6 meters long.
Used as evoperation pans to help keep up the humidity.
Here is the site that helped me get on with the project.
