Got relatives phals. I am in shock.

I can see why she killed over 20 of them. I got 7 that survived, well kind of. I immediately took them out of their pots and the first two had NO good roots left. So I spag and bagged them. Time will tell. One huge phal has one tiny root so it's in a real small makeshift plastic container. One had crown rot so I have no idea if it will grow. The rest all had much root rot but not total. All are repotted in new bark mix except for the rootless ones. She cut all of their spikes off because they looked like twigs. This is one big experiment for me. But on the bright side I got fertilizer, pots, stakes and clips, and bark mix.
Not one of these phals had any new growth such as leaves, roots, spikes. I am doing my best to revive them.

Wow, what a project! Good luck. Hopefully they will respond to your good care and reward you. Probably best that the spikes were cut off, the plants don't sound like they have the energy for spikes.

I thought all of the roots being dead was from overwatering but I remembered they were watered for a long time using ice cubes which can cause the roots to dry up. My mother in law said if she thought more was involved in growing orchids than just adding ice she wouldn't have bought them. When they rebloom (I am thinking positively) it will be a surprise to see what color they are.
