Dendrobium ID

Hi everyone,

I had made an impulse dendrobium purchase at an orchid show about 2 months ago. I had failed to ask the vendor what type of dendrobium it was because I did not realize how varied their care would be depending on the type. On the tag it says dendrobium "to my kids smile." I had googled it and came up short of what I was looking for. Can anyone tell me what type this might be on the pictures? Is it a D. nobile?

Thank you for the link. The orchid does look just like mine. I'm going to assume it's a dendrobium nobile.

Thank you for the link Sharyn. It gave me a better idea on how to care for this dendrobium. It unfortunately started to form a keiki so hopefully I can figure out how to revive it.

Denrobium Nobiles,when to cease watering?

Dear siriusmk,

Your new Dendrobium is definitely a nobile-type or nobile hybrid, or a softcane Deendrobium as they are sometimes called, but I do not believe it is a species Den nobile. the flowers are far too full and round thd the plant too "beefy" for it to be the species. These guys love LOTS of water when in active growth but come autumn they must be allowed to dry out with no water at all (and high light) during the winter. Most folks who have these dont' fertilize them.

If the growth is at the base, it is not a keiki, and is the normal seasons growth which can be expected at this time.
