No, it doesn't matter which way he cross is made, still the same registered name.

What Nugget said and sometimes on "The Wiz" when you are looking to see if a cross is registered, I have put it in such as walkeriana crossed with cordigera and not gotten a registered plant, then done it the opposite way with cordigera first and then came up registered. I don't know why, but I do recall it happening, when I was looking up some Paph. crosses.

RHS Orchid Register is the same - crosses are only listed as pod parent X pollen parent so you often have to search both ways to find the hybrid name you are after. In any case, whether it is A X B or B X A the resultant name is the same.

I suppose with the RHS, they merely go by the way the parents are submitted in the original registration form. In the case of OrchidWiz (where I have never seen that), it would simply be an omission, as they try to make sure it matches both ways. Interestingly enough, some logic states that A x B is NOT the same as B x A, because mitochondrial DNA, coming from the "pod" parent, can play a pretty significant role in the offspring, suggesting they are not genetically similar.

I would completely agree with that Ray but of course the current naming convention does not take it into account.

Thanks you guys. I always thought that AxB vs BxA would be different like Ray said. I guess for now I will put the new hybrid name on it but keep a note in Wiz that my cross was listed the other way around. My geeks are always so helpful! Again thank you all!! Shann~ |
