Mounting Catleyas

I had 4 catts. Lost 2 of them. The other 2 were putting out new growth and trying hard to syrvive but looked terrible. I decided to mount them as a last resort before I give up on catts completely.Did I make a mistake? Misting daily is no problem. I'm on the coast, Galveston area. i grow on a glassed in porch. plenth of light and air. Any tips? Any advice at all/ i probably should have asked before i did it but i was just so tired of looking at them trying to just survive. All advise will be appreciated. i'd really like to save these two. Thanks in advance, Gladys

Hi Gladys,

How long ago did you mount them and how did you mount them (e.g. with sphagnum around the roots, etc.)? Are oyu able to post a pic so we can see how they currently look? It would be helpful in giving advice.

cheers

Red face

Can't take a pic at the moment, but can give details.
I mounted on cork bark. Spag. under and on top and tied securely with florist wire. Soaked in superthrive beforehand for a few hours.
I have them hanging out of direct sun for now.Is that right?
They have"some " roots, but not nice healthy looking roots, if that makes sense? They are putting on a little new growth, tho not a lot.
One is purple looking all over, the whole plant. The other is light green. both were in same spot previously.
They were left out for a few hours in 29degrees this winter. Then this spring burned in the spot that had been fine the week before.
I just started growing last summer. Thats when I got these two plants to torture. Have a lot to learn yet, but I'm trying . I read the forums everyday. "Studying" so to speak. Then it occured to me that I don't even know if catts do well mounted where i live. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.I'm not going to buy any more catts till I feel more confident! Thank You, Gladys
Mounted Tuesday evening, and now I'm worrying myself silly! I love my plants. But i'm obsessed over my orchids.

Hi Gladys...the one with purple looking all over , if I'm not mistaken..is from too much light . If the leaves feel leathery rough and dry with purple pigment all over, it's the same as one of mine that had been exposed to too much light too soon when it was quite weak to begin with ( the sun isn't shining in the same spot all of the sudden ) . This one suffered because it was in direct sun almost until 1pm for the whole week !! I moved it a few weeks ago and it's almost back to normal green..but gotta say I think the strong sun helped it set the bud ...finally. I won't do this intensionally, though.
