Can anyone tell me is this cymbidium or oncidium?

Hello.
Yesterday i was visit a cattleya collector.
His collections reach almost 1000 i guess.
I bought one. And i was given an orchid as bonus which i dont know what it is.
I think ot is cymbidium or oncidium.
What is the differences between them?
Here is the pic.

Well let's just say it's not Cymbidium, that is definite but I am not sure if it's the other either.

Actually looking at it a second time it might be oncidium or a related genus or hybrid.

If you were sure that it is not cymbidium, maybe it is oncidium.
I never seen oncidium or cymbidium directly. I just see them on internet.

That is possible, it's certainly something from the Oncidium alliance but not necessarily an Oncidium. We won't know until we see it in flower.

Definitely something from the Oncidium alliance. Perhaps you could send an inquiry to the seller you got it from?

Hi,
Its definatly not a cymbidium. How you tell is the way the growth looks at the base of the the plant and the leaves are wrong also close but not like a cymbidium shape and trexture is not cymbidium I guess best way to describe the comparison but at the base how the growths look its not a cymbidium.

I lean to oncidium alliance the growths look more like that but which one species or hybrid is unknown.
Growi it with oncidium culture see how it does
Good luck!!

It's difficult to put into words the idiosyncrasies between the two species. I have a thread I posted a while back with a seedling of each that I got... Here it it's if you want to compare. Two New Babies: Onc. Sharry Baby "Sweet Fragrance" and Cym. King Arthur "Green Giant"

It's not an ideal representation since they're both so young and only have single growths but you can get a sense of the shape of the plant leaves and such from it. I need to do an update on both of them.

It's definitely not a cym. I'm gonna take a guess and say some type of odontoglossum by the leaves and growths. Is there anyway you can get a close up of the pbulbs?
