Visit to SVO

Just got to San Diego today and went to SVO. Got to check out Fred's collection and had no plans on getting any orchids... but Fred was pretty persuasive and ended up getting some orchids to take home on the plane with me. I still don't know how I ended up in this mess. Now I need to work on finding space for these plants and rebuilding my budget.

Left to Right
1) Paph. Saint Swithin
2) Cl. Jumbo Glory (for a friend who wanted a pink one)
3) Ctsm Pileatum v Imperale x Ctsm John C. Burchett Ursa MJor

Nice!! I have a couple of the St. Swithin that look to be almost that size.

How long do the petals get with your Saint Swithin? Do they twist? When I google images them, seems like there's a range of petal length and twist.

Wow. Looks beautiful. I guess Fred picked a good one for me. I told him I wanted one that had larger blooms with long petals. The dark markings on the light petals are really striking.

Hey ! They look great!
St swithin is on my wish list !! Jim yours is gorgeous!!!
You gotta love the vendors though when I went to my first show in sept.
I brought cash... When I ren out of cash this place had a atm machine and she kept adding that to the end of each time she said we take credit cards oh and there's a a atm in the lobby lol. I came home with like 9 or 10 orchids but only used the cash (even though there were 4 more I wanted lol) next show is in Jan in livermore

Well I pretty much spent all my time in the catasetum greenhouse, but most of his FDKs were in bloom. There were a lot of black ones including his cross he was selling last year, the Mo. Painted Desert x Ursa Major. The color was so deep and uniform, they looked like they were dipped in semi-gloss paint. Also a lot of donna wise type, kidney bean hybrids, and several other varieties I can't even name.

Most of his Cats are still very green with some showing signs of dormancy whereas my FDK at home is practically a bare bulb at this point. But then again, San Diego gets a lot of light and warmth even now. It's daytime mid 60s here and mid 40s at home.
