| What is This and How Do I Care for It?
My husband called me from the store early this morning (he went out and I stayed home!) and asked if I wanted a tiny purple orchid. Since I haven't purchased any plants in a while due to my vow I said YES! He brought it home, and its adorable, but I'm not sure what type it is or how to care for it. Thanks guys!

That's a dendrobium, but it's not the deciduous type (like D. nobile) that requires a marked cool/dry resting period. It would grow intermediate to warm, in conditions similar to Oncidium alliance plants, or like a Phal, but with more light.

Very pretty Emma. I think its a Phal type Dendrobium. Its a very cute miniature. At first I thought that big green thing in the background was its leaf - that sure confused me for a minute

Dian is right its a phalenthe or phal type Den which is the ever green type and np winter rest water year round. The AOS sheets for Dens is broken down to groups I do believe its the first group this one is in and its culture info a link should be in the forum section.

Thanks guys! I thought it was a phal type den but I wanted to be sure. Thanks for mentioning the Phalaenanthe thing too. I looked at the Dendrobium sheet on AOS and it was confusing!

What a pretty little den! I water that type of den all year round, slightly less in winter but never a complete dry out. High light and it should be good to go.

it's a mini den! I have a 'mystery' one too... mine is white with purple centers.. I have them in sphag and plenty of light and they seem to be happy with me Always blooming!

I have one that is also a mystery, and looks to be the same color as yours. When I got mine I cleaned off the roots and got all the rotten roots out of the way, I put it in a quick drying potting medium and found that it does great getting water 2 times/ week. I dont mist it at all, I have it under my grow light in my basement where it is 70 in the day, and about 62-63 at night. It does very good!

One thing that no one has mentioned, what a very nice hubby you have!!!! And you have taught him to be an enabler too!!!! Way to go.
