catasetums .....what have i missed out?

hi everyone,
just recently i acquired this new catasetum, came with 2 backbulbs and a lead bulb. but what is interesting is the lead bulb is fairly immature and yet it is sending out new growth (already about 2inches in height). on top of that i can see two more new emerging spike/growth by the side of the lead bulb.
i am been struggling to get multiple growth/leads in my catasetums but look at this guy, 4 together !! irrespective the two coming up is a spike or keiki...but 4!!! amazing. THEN CAME TO ME, WHAT HAVE I MISSED OUT IN CATASETUMS CULTIVATION? how they manage to have such vigorous growth? the bulbs ain't super big in size but they are really "proliferative".
but all the excitement was extinguished when i notice there is a 1/2 cm black spot on backbulb just behind this lead bulb and was force to do major surgery on it (totally heartbroken) and below is the pic of what is left............
first pic is the end product of the surgery
second pic is the close up of the multiple new growths
third pic - with pointers to facilitate viewing of second pic
hopefully the back bulbs will be able to make it coz one is too "age" to produce a new keiki (i guess) and the another one suffer severe trauma from the bulb rot (about 1/3 trimmed away on the base). all hope lies in this immature lead bulb now.....................................

What a thrill, to see all that new growth! Do you know the name of the plant, or is it a NOID? That would definitely be one to look for!

with all the major surgery leaving the new growth alone no backbulbs, i doubt it will develop. at most only the lead bulb and the smaller keiki would do so. the other two smaller growth most likely to regress.
it's Catasetum cilliatum

Ian, the largest new growth looks like it's beginning to swell and form the p'bulb, so as long as you give it good watering and fertilizer, it should continue to grow on just fine.

And don't write off the old b'bulb, you'd be surprised how it can start a new growth on some really old ones.

yeap, totally agree about the old bulb thing you said, just that the entire base got to be trimmed off about 1/3 of it. though i had many plants derived from very poor conditioned bulb, but those without the bases have lower chances.
well, the largest new growth have little roots left, many got to be trimmed away due to the marshy condition but hopefully it will survived. will post update if it does make it.
