My haul from the Orchidfete 2011 orchid show!

Took a while but I just got my own camera to take my own picture of my 'chids!

So here are the orchids I got at the orchidfête 2011 on the 22 and 23 of october!

I'd heard of this one so much that I just had to buy it. The seller actually had two versions of it. He had a pink version and this one;
Iwanagara Appleblosson 'Golden Beauty'

I fell in love with Neo intergenerics so when I saw this little darling I just had to have it!
Ascofinetia Peaches

This one was on my wish list, totally didn't expect to see it at the show, and at the member's table too!
Epc. Atrowalker

This one was also at the very top of my wishlist and we were lucky enough to find two! Here are a few pics of mine!
Agnx. Eva's Blue Amazon 'Kalapana'

I have it! I finally have my very own Dtps. Purple Martin 'KS'!!
And it sure don't skip a beat that one! It's already preparing two blooms!

This one was totally an impulse buy, I read that it likes cooler temps than most phals...I hope I can keet it alive!
Phalaenopsis lindenii

These are the two flowers my Lou Sneary generously offered me despite it's lack of roots on the bottom! Aren't they beautiful!?

This one was on my wish list, bought it, figured out I had nothing to mount it on, tought long and hard and finally decided to try it in hydroton, so far so good!!!
Phalaenopsis minus

This one was pre-ordered from J&L Orchids. It's smaller than I thought it would be but it looks healthy and it has a spike starting! And the roots look sort of scale-ish/hairy. I love it!!
Amesiella monticola

Since I gave my Sedirea Japonica to Mira-Claude, well, I just had to have one too!! So I pre-ordered this one from Ten Shin Gardens!

This was on my wish list, had to have it, hope I can keep it alive!
Phalaenopsis stuartiana var. nobilis
My haul from the Orchidfete 2011 orchid show!-stuartianavarnobilis1.jpg

Saw it in the Ten Shin Garden's catalogue and they happened to have some at the show so I had to take one!
Tuberolabium kotoense

J&L Orchids had a few of these and I wanted to buy my first Dendrobium. It also had the advantage of being on the small side and it's supposed to have blue-ish flowers. How could I resist?!
Dendrobium victoria-reginae

Nice shopping!!

According to O-Wiz, lindenii is in temps averaging 71-76 during the day, and 60-61 at night. I stuck mine on cork bark and put it in the window with the rest of my mounted Phals. It has been growing quite well, and I am hoping for it to spike and bloom next flowering season.

Regarding P. stuartiana var nobilis- I have been told that this species and variety needs to dry out more than most other Phals, but that it also should dry out rapidly and would do best mounted. I purchased mine in the spring I believe, and mounted it on cork. It has since grown some really nice roots, and surprisingly has sent out a spike!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge psyc1210!
Unfortunately our summer temps usually hovers at around 86 and often goes higher...
As for my stuartiana... it is still a seedling but...do you think it might do well in hydrothon? My minus sure does like it so far but it's blooming size.

My window gets hot as heck in the summer, and my lindenii grows well so I'd say just keep it how you are keeping the other Phals.

Re: stuartiana, hydroton is probably a good idea. I keep all my Phals, except mounted Phals, in aliflor/hydroton, and most seem to really enjoy it. I think if you repot it in hydroton, just keep an eye on it as you do your other Phals...it will let you know if it is not happy.

Nice Haul !!
I've been tempted to try mine in hydroton. I recently got a couple that were in japanese pumice. Unfortunatly I can't find any anywhere even on line. So I tried the regular pumice recently. I'm worried it may be to fine a grade the japanese pumice is larger pieces. So I'm tempted to try hydroton if I can't find it at all (the japanese pumice)

Very nice selections! I've got a few 'chids in hydroton, (LECA), but I usually feel more comfortable using stalite - don't know why. I have a real problem getting my watering down right, when it comes to Phals. (Do best with them mounted, where I can be 'heavy handed'!)

Great job shopping. I have the den vic-reg, you will love it! Mine is quite large with the largest of the canes over 2 feet long. I have mine mounted as the canes are quite pendulous and it stays moist all the time, I never let it dry out. Her are a couple pics of what you can expect.

It is beautiful! The seller told me to water it like a cattleya, water then let it dry out well before watering again.
It seems to be potted in something that looks like twigs, coarse perlite and bits of sphag so I'm not sure what to do.
So far I've done what she said and I water it only when dry and it lost a few leaves but it seems ok now. Should I water it a bit more?

They will lose leaves, they will bloom on leafless canes. They can bloom at any time, but mine has bloomed the best late winter into late spring. I've had mine a couple years now and with only a few exceptions, I've always kept it fairly moist. Everything I've read on them always says good humidity and evenly moist all the time. Some say a bit drier during the winter, but again, I never let it dry out comepletely. As for light, I do give it a bit more light in winter, but they don't require high light like some dens do.
