My first Miltonia!

I went to Trader Joe's the other day to see if they had any different color phaps then the one I have already, but no. I did see lots of other kinds of orchids I dont have have yet. I have 1 paph, 8 phals, and 1 oncidium. So I looked around I saw this guy. I know I need to repot it there are 5 or 6 bulbs all packed together and they look cramped. It has 2 spikes with blooms ready to open and 2 more spikes starting up. So any tips or other info on this would be nice. Do I plant in moss like my phals? Thats what I put my oncidium in and its doing really good.

They started opening today!

The two little spikes, one by my thumb the other by my finger tips.

You can see what the main color will be, but I cant wait to see it all the way open!

It's lovely! It's also a miltioniopsis. This matters because they take different culture than miltonias; miltoniopsis grow fairly bright in intermediate/warm temperatures; miltonias grow cool to intermediate in lower light (bright shade).

Brigitte, your new plant that I covet takes miltonia culture.

Yes, they're often tagged incorrectly. The big difference - besides culture - is the shape of the flower. Miltoniopsis are rounded and pansy-like; miltonia are more pointed.

Here are some shots I took this morning. I got a little pic crazy! Haha! I love the color of the blooms. They are so purdy! My boy friend keeps laughing at me because I keep saying "Hey! Look at my purdy flowers!" He thinks I'm a dork. Oh and I counted the bulbs. There are 6 fully showing and at least 10 or 12 more new ones that are just leaves sticking out. I know I have to repot soon. It looks really cramped.

To me it look's like a miltoniopsis orchid and not a miltonia, thats my opinion don't know if anyone thinks the same? It has beautiful flowers!
