Winter rest?

Help, I'm confused over winter rest periods. I have a Den. Polar Fire which is a Phal type Den and am confused whether it needs a rest period. Having read different culture sheets they seem to contradict each other. My Den is currently growing a spike and obviously I don't want to lose it. Currently I am watering it about every 7 days.

So the question is should it have rest or not, if it needs a rest for how long??

Thanks
Caroline

Hi Caroline,
I'm no expert, but my understanding is that phal-type dens don't require a rest period. They are also referred to as "hard cane." I think the ones that require a rest period are the "nobile" or "soft cane" dens. If this is incorrect, someone please correct me!

I don't give my phal type dens a rest. They get watered regularly all year.

phal type or hard cane dens dont need a winter rest....particularly if spiking, you dont want to decrease water or fert at that point.....gl with your blooms!

No matter what you have, remember, in the winter time all your plants require less water. Your normal routine may lead to root rot. Right now, many of my plants are inside for the winter and only require watering every two-three weeks, depending on the growing medium.
