The only problem i have with Hydrogel is,
Out of all the hydro pictures i googled. although they say it's being used for growing plants.
Not one picture shows any signs of roots? I know the orchid one doesn't. If anything its a clipping.
Which makes me wonder.
If its ment for growing plants. Why use a clipping to advertise the product?

If I'm not mistaken, this stuff doesn't work. It smothers the roots and doesn't allow them air circulation. I haven't used it because of the horror stories I've read.

There's a search function you can use to get someone else's experience instead of making a new thread as well. Might want to try that. Just spend some time surfing the site, I've been here a couple years now but don't post very much because I can find enough previous posts/info and therefore don't need to make a new thread every time. Also, can you make a single post in the future? 6 posts back to back seems a bit excessive...

Another member posted about the use of Hydrogel, here is the thread: Hydrogel as planting media??

I think the consensus was somewhat negative. Too bad, the stuff does look kind of cool, especially if you are going for the very modern look. Plus the beads are a little on the pricey side.

If you really like the look and wanted to use them, I would put the phal in a clear plastic pot with medium such as bark or moss or whatever you prefer, then put it in a larger glass pot and surround it with the hydrogel, therefore hiding the phals original pot.

My thread is for any random media.
So i see no reason why i can't refer to topic's already discused. As for my post quota. I wasn't under the impression that multiple posts were frowned apon?
But thank you for pointing out my "Miss steps"
I will try not to (over) post......

Anyway...
thank you everyone for your posts
Sakura_Usagi,

I think the point was just to encourage you to just do a quick search on the forum to see if your question has been answered previously. I think the Hydrogel thing is still fresh in peoples' minds because it was recently discussed. Also as far as the multiple posts go, the point was just try to organize your thoughts into a single post so your thoughts and questions are more cohesive and so the forum does not get cluttered. One's questions and thoughts can be easily obfuscated if spread out over back to back posts. Of course, if you thought of something after your original post and wanted to add it shortly after nobody would give that a second thought.

Nobody's upset, people just want to see you put the forum to its best use. Its just friendly advice.

Yours,
Justin

My phals are in lava rock and plastic net pots. I love seeing the roots and they really are growing well.

CHC and sphagum moss are my mediums of choice. I've had especially good results with the sphagum. CHC is still in the trial stages but the results thus far have been huge. Mostly potted in plastic or glass.

I have tried a modified mount idea. I had a bunch of NOID phals that were stuggling (some were rescues, plus I am a chronic overwaterer) so I took a large rectangular terra-cotta pot that I had, and put in a slab of hardwood (8"x10") that I had drilled a bunch of holes in so that the roots can grow around it (and hopefully increase humidity inside the pot). I water it every morning and there is a large drainage hole in the bottom.

There are about 11 Phals in there and they are all super happy and throwing out roots, one of them is putting out a spike too!

It probably looks messy to some people but I love it!

I have my Sedirea mounted to a grapevine ball stuffed with moss. It seems to love it since it is doing pretty well, growing new roots into the moss and putting out new leaves.
I'll post a picture later.
