Update on my Odcdm Catatante 'Pacific Sunspots'

Hydro works. It just takes a lot of patience.

This is my pretty little firebird a few months ago. The entire plant was rotted except for on tiny piece.

So I pulled her apart, treated her everyday for about a week straight with hydrogen peroxide to kill any bacteria. Then I dipped her in rooting hormone and put her in a small crystal vase with water well above the base of the pbulb. I keep the water fairly full and it's always got Superthrive in it at one concentration or another.

This is her today:

I'd say she's looking great! She's got four new growths all with tiny roots. Not to mention those pbulbs are no where near as shriveled as they were. (You can see them in the second picture. The part I saved is in the front.)

Once those roots get a bit longer I'll transfer her into soil.

I've had to do the same thing with my Brassia Edvah Loo and she's got new growths too.

Great save Amblnc38! I have a sick catt that I would like to try with the peroxide treament and then the hydro. Did you use full strength? How often did you change the water? I can't wait to see more pictures of your progress.

I did use full strength, but I felt I was I would likely lose the plant regardless so I was willing to gamble. I soaked it in a deep bowl for a few minutes making sure it was completely covered and the rinsed it off thoroughly with regular tap water. Then I soaked it for a bit in my usual tap water/drop of superthrive/epsom salt mix I water with.

I pretty much filled the vase when it was getting close to empty. Cleaning it for algae every other week or so. I imagine the evaporation going on helped a lot with the humidity.

I also kept the vase off sides of one of my windows, so it gets lots of early, early morning sun, but then just partial sun for the day. I figured less sun would be better than too much for the time being.

I make no promises it will work for you. I've just had great success thus far with my Catante, a NOID phal and two pieces of my Brassia.
