Miltassia lighting question

I have a Miltassia (I think they are now called Bratonia) Shelob 'Tolkien' that I have been growing since April 2011. Since acquiring it, two pseudobulbs have matured. I believe it to be blooming size, but it has not sent up a spike.

I was wondering if anybody knows what kind of lighting levels this plant requires. So far, I have been growing it with the rest of my Phalaenopsis orchids. I am thinking it might need a little more light, but I wanted to know if anybody grows this plant and what kind of lighting they give it.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

Hi Justin! Mine was growing all summer in my NE facing bay window. Although I bought mine in flower with one very small new spike (1st of July) by the end of August that spike bloomed. It now has some new growth & is under T8 florescent lights (2 6500K & 2 3500K). I'll see if I get any spikes. Don't know if I helped any

It definitely needs more light than phals. I don't grow these any more but I had my best blooming success when they sat right next to my catts. I'd gradually increase the light until it's at least on the low end of catt light.

Thanks for the advice, I was being kind conservative with the light because I at first tried it under Oncidium light and a few leaves appeared to burn so I moved it down to Phal light and I haven't had a leaf burn since. Though, thinking back on it, the leaves 'burned' on days that were extremely hot and it could have just been that the plant was getting too hot. At least that's my theory. I will start acclimating to higher light this week.

Thanks again,
Justin

Better safe than sorry...I completely understand. Now that temps are cooler...that acclimation should go rather quickly for you...and the plant.
