Sarcochilus flasks arrived

Hi my order for Sarcochilus flasks arrived today.
They were ordered way back in May this year.

Sarc. George Colthup "D-Showey' X Velvet 'Cool Dude'

Sarc Fizzy Dove 'Beauty' X Velvet 'Cool Dude'

Sacr. George Colthup "D-Rusty' X Velvet '#3'

Sarc. Elise 'Plum' X Heidi Daniel'

Sarc. Duno 'Nickys Twin 'Eloise' AM-AD X hartmannii 'Red Snow'

I will de-flask in a day or so when my friend who shared them with me comes over.
Most will have some sort of good red colouring in them

Hey Ron they look great!! I've been hunting for some of these over here but aren't easy to find and Troy doesn't have any at this time.
Did you get them from the same place you get your others?
Tay really look great and very healthy

yeh tell me about it,
when my friend told me how long it would take i was a bit surprised, and he probably expected me to not want to bother getting them flasked, well i proved him wrong
there is a member in my society who does flasking as a bussiness so i gave them to him at the next meeting after you kindly sent them to me ,
and you reminded me that i need to ask him at the next meeting (thursday), how they are going.

i can't wait until they flower, orchids are certainly teaching my patience, which is a very valuable virtue.

Cost me $45 for a flask of 20 plants, but that is what he calles his miniumn, usually most like around 25 to 30 plants per flask and grown well you can expect to see flowers in 12 to 18 months on well grown plants.
But most will flower around 2 years.
They are usually compact small growers but with age can make a nice speciment in a 12 inch pan.

Will give it a go, usually it is a simple process of washing the plants out of the bottle, sorting them into groups of the same size, pot them into a community pot, fungicide and place in greenhouse.
That simple and easy!

"O" yes bleaching every thing involved, even between flasks and include your hands.
I am a great fusspot for cleaness!

Hi Paul.
Same as for all my flasking and growing on.
The large 12mm to 18mm CoCo nuggets, nothing else added, they like the openness of the medium and there fat little roots can meander through it!

Thanks, Ron. I lean toward the coco chips, because I've used it for years, but I've been messing around with orchiata for a few months now. Smaller though. Not sure which one I prefer, or should I say, the orchids prefer at this point, but they do well in. I'm just amazed at the "size" chips you use.

I'm going to give it a try.

Hi Paul, one of our top growers and breeders of Sarcs is now using large CoCo nuggets with Maidenwell diatomite mixed in with great success.
He has more awards then you could count and has been our clubs guest speaker several times.
So it gives me confidence to grow mine this way also.

Hey Ron, those flasks look very nice. May i ask where you ordered them from? I purchased a heap of seedlings from Neville Roper last year and heaps are in blooms now. I've joined Revesby Workers Australia Native Orchid Club last week and hopefully will get the chance to purchase some nice division from the members there. But in the meantime, i want to expand my Sarc collection. Im mainly concentrating of the yellow colouration and the deep reds and purples.

Hi, they came from David Butler of Green vista Orchids.
see this months Australian Orchid review for his great article and email address.
I have been buying from David for over 11 years and allways get good flasks and quality plants from him.

Did you go to the Revesby Native show the other weekend, how was it and how many plants (Sarcs) on display.
I would love to go up next year.

Great photos, Stephen. I'm with Ron; the plant in the last photo is very impressive. Pelorics aren't necessarily my cup of tea but the peloric Sarc is nonetheless very interesting.
