New Brassia Rex 'Tahoma' repotting & questions

Hi all, I was given a Brassia Rex 'Tahoma' tonight (my aunt was bored with it so score for me!) I have zero experience with Brassia. I did as much research as I could and the consensus seems to be that it hates being repotted. It has five new growths, three you can see in the front, pic below of course Can I hold off on repotting until I see it bloom at least once? I also read some like to use more shallow pots too. I'm not sure why. Do the roots not grow into the media too deeply? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

iphone pic, sorry about quality. Water bottle for size refrence.

Did you aunt tell you how long it has been in its present pot with the same medium? That would make a difference to me. If she can't tell you, you could put a skewer into the medium and see how long it takes for it to dry out. I'd think a plant that size would be using the water up pretty quickly, so if it stays wet for days and days, the medium is probably broken down.

That's a nice healthy looking plant--plump bulbs and no pleated leaves that I can see. Lucky you! Personally, I wouldn't risk setting it back because I left the re-potting too long. This should be a good time, with new growth and roots coming on. I'd probably repot if it hasn't been done recently.

Thanks guys. The media actually looks pretty fresh, but I will ask her anyway. I was mostly worried about the new growths, if they are too close to the edge of the pot, should I go a size up? The one all the way on the left in the photo is on the edge of the clay, but the others have about an inch of space.

@sunshine- It is stunning! That's why I took it, even though I'm going to have to really put in some effort to find a spot for it. I didn't know it smelled nice too!
