Threatening works!

I was literally in mid-sentence threatening this phal NOID with "you haven't bloomed in 3 years --" when I saw this...

Humm, should I do the same thing with my 6 orchids that I have at home with just leaves and not even a sight of any spike???
I have this one that I don't know if this is a spike or an aerial root. What do you think?

Certainly a root, but you can't get much in the way of blooms without roots! That guy may be getting ready for the fall temperature drop to set a spike (said the eternal optimist).

I don't know. A lot of my orchids come from N.Y. You don't want to go threatening them unless you're prepared to follow through

i was i the midst of verbally abusing my sharry baby last week when i noticed it had a spike.

'talking' to your plants helps.

Told you guys threatening works. Every single orchid I have threatened has bloomed. I think it has to do with the degree of threat, causing a climate change, ROFLMAO. Congratulations on your spike =)

Update!

Here are updated photos of the threatened phal . It only took 2 1/2 months from when I discovered the spike to when the first bud opened.
Sorry about the picture quality (cell phone). I will try to get better pictures with my camera later.
