Dgmra. Mem. Jay Yamada 'Kauai'

Hi all,

Sometime back I acquired Dgmra. Mem. Jay Yamada 'Kauai' from an orchid exhibition. I repotted it in coarse bark. It started a new growth with a bunch of new roots. But today I saw that all the new roots on the new growth shriveled and died. The orchid sits in a southwest window sill with direct sun between 3 pm and 6 pm. I am greatly disappointed as all the new roots died. Can one of you please suggest me what should be the culture for this? I googled a lot but I did not find any information regarding this orchid's culture. Have anyone of you tried this orchid before? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I have learnt a lot from this forum. Growing orchids has helped me manage my stress better. Thanks to this forum.

Thank you

Amul

Hi,
Here in california 3pm to 6pm is the hottest sun to be directly in. I'm thinking yoi may have gotten burnt roots from this exposure. Hopefully it will make new ones soon to replace them. Do you have an east window for morning sun it isn't as hot but is bright.
Hope this helps

Hi Emmaye,

Thank you very much for the reply. I did some research yesterday and according to a number of online websites Dgmra is a low to medium light orchid.
I think I killed the orchid's roots with too much light and heat. I moved it to a cooler place with dappled light. I have another division in that spot doing fine.
I will update you with it's progress.

Thank you
