A subspike growing on a cut stem??

I cut the stem of one of my Phals that was a little stressed. There were still some blooms on it, so I put it in a glass. The last bloom dropped yesterday, and when I took the stem out to throw it away, I noticed the subspike. Has anyone ever seen this happen before?

I can't say I've had subspike form, but I have had a Keiki sprout like this before. Best advice would be to just keep it watered and possibly feed it a little weak fert and see what happens

It happened once to me, I put a dash of superthrive in the water, and it took forever...changed the water every 3rd day, but after about a month, I got one beautiful blossom....did not last long, but I got to enjoy one bonus bloom
