What is this strange coelogyne growth?

My recently repotted Coelogyne mooreana has sort of stopped sulking. Its new growths have become noticeably bigger and the 3rd new growth is now 1/2" tall.

In the middle of its 2nd largest new growth, I noticed this purple/brown thin growth. The strange growth is about the size and shape of a sharpened pencil, but slightly smaller, and it doesn't feel soft or rotten (at first I thought my poor plant had black rot). In the photo below, you can see the dark colored growth. I wonder what it is? The other growth with new leaves doesn't have anything like this.

Maybe a spike in the making? Doesn't look like a leaf to me.

This is how moorena spikes, but it shouldn't be black. It should be bright green like the leaves. So If it is as black as it looks I'm afraid it's probably blasting.

an all over plant photo would be nice too,
i have a coel. and i divided it into a group of 3 growths and 1 growth, the newest of the 3 went on to flower, but the 1, grew a new growth, which grew a spike, but blasted, because it obviously wasn't strong enough to hold it, also the new bulb on the (now 2) is quite small, so hopefully next year, or later this year

Aww it was a dead spike! I gave it a gentle tug and the whole thing came loose. I guess that was to be expected, since the plant was shipped in 100 deg weather and I repotted it shortly after arrival because of bugs in the broken down medium. On the bright side, it has a tiny 4th new growth!

I'll post a pic later!
