Why do phal blooms not fully open?

I have only had this phal for a year, so this is only the second time I've seen it in bloom. There are 5 blossoms and they have been "fully bloomed" for about 3 weeks now. But the petals aren't all open. There are a couple that look like they want their last two petals to open but the others aren't moving much. Is this just moving very slowly or could there be another reason why these blooms don't want to fully blossom?

It looks like a peloric phal, which is a kind of genetic "mutation" that causes the petals to resemble the lip, so that is why the two petals are cupped and do not open fully. There's nothing wrong with the plant. That's just the way it is. There are varying degrees of peloricism, as shown here:

Humidity can affect them. Not sure if that is the problem though.

I have one, I believe is peloric, it is a NOID phal. After these 2, the rest of the blooms were open and "normal".

The more complicated the pool gene the more chances of a glitch happening.
Like in us humans.
I don't think there is anything to worry about. Next time it flowers it will probably be normal. Enjoy the uniqueness while it lasts!

At first Michael, I thought so, but then the other buds opened, and they were wide open, so I guess I'll just wait and see next flowering.....but thinking...just a fluke...

Lack of sufficient water in the plant can reduce the hydraulic pressure that "inflates" the blossoms.

Lack of humidity can sometimes have a similar effects.

Excessive use of rooting hormones can also have that sort-of effect, but it would likely affect all of the blossoms.

I have one that did that on it's last flowering (its second) a few months ago. The semi opened flowers / buds lasted for 3 months. The first flowering, they were all normal.

The flowers died off, and it has started flowering again, this time as they should look AGAIN.

Thanks for the info, all. I took a closer look and it is definitely peloric. There are little nubs, or calluses on the petals. I took another photo where you can see this (it's a little darker).
