soft leaves

Hello, my name is Cory, and this is my first post here. I am very excited that a community like this exists for us(orchid enthusiasts) and have faith that the collective knowledge of this group will most certainly get me threw everything i encounter. So first up, i am currently trying to rehab my plants that i overwatered, its been about a month since i came to the conclusion that my plants leaves which looked kinda prune-ish, like your hands look after spending along time in the water, was caused by overwatering. I repotted and trimmed out all dead roots, and waited two weeks before watering to try and dry them out, now i am watering every ten to fourteen days, fertyilizing at a quarter strength with every watering(every two weeks) Since then the leaves have become more rigid but upon touching them they still feel soft, almost fragile. Is it too soon and my expectations too high, or am i doing something wrong? Any ideas, comments, personal experience will help and is much appreciated. Thank you

Hi Cory, and welcome!!
Pictures are always a good thing, easier to help, when we can see the problem.
You will have to post 5 times, then you can put a picture up for us to see

Hi, Cory! Best place to be if you're an enthusiast or wanting to learn. People on this site are great!
Question- what kind of orchids are you having the problem with?

Hello Cory and to Geeks.

First off - what kind of orchid do you have? I would guess Phalaenopsis because its the most common orchid beginners get - but it is best not to guess these things.

Second of all - how many good roots did you have left? Your watering schedule will be determined by how fast the media dries out - and what conditions the plant wants at its root level. A Phal does not want to dry all the way out - a Catt does (and there are many more variations depending on the Orchid).

If the leaves have firmed up that is a good sign it is recovering. Is it growing new roots? The fragility of the leaves will depend on which Orchid..

A month is a short time to gauge recovery. Some Phal leaves will never recover all the way - but the new leaves that come in will be much happier.

Once again, welcome to the forum - and when you post 5 replies you can show us pictures

Yes they are phals I'm having problems with, I also have a Dendrobium which is doing great. The roots I trimmed where not much maybe twenty percent of the total root ball at the most. Such a kind welcome from you all feels great, I will put pictures up hopefully by Tuesday.
