Cattleya dowiana

You all were very helpful when I asked for advice on potting the C.dowiana backbulbs that I won in the SCOS raffle last month. And it must have liked your advice, because now it has at least 2 new roots that I can see under the newest pbulb.

I understand that normally this chid will want a winter rest, with little water and no fertilizer. One of the books I have says to start reducing water in September. Is that what I should do with this one? Or should I wait a bit, until it's better established?

I've been keeping the medium fairly dry anyway, misting the leaves once or twice a day with plain water, and once a week with liquid fertilizer. I gave it a regular watering today.

This is a good question when it comes to establishing and new growths. Personally I'm not to familiar with this one as far as if it would turn and go south if you didn't rest it or if not resting means more growth and no blooms lik like some of the Dens. So yes qood question
Hopefully one of the pro's will be along in the morning or tonight.
Good luck!!

I grow in a g/h so I use the sun and temps to tell me when to reduce water. My September can be quite sunny and hot so the dowiana gets watered as needed. It is usually my Dec. Jan. and Feb. where the water is very restricted.

Well, it does stay warm here too, often through November. So maybe I'll start to restrict when I have to turn the heat on!

Thanks!
