I scored the mother load at Lowes!

I swore I wasn't going to buy any more orchids but somehow I found myself at Lowes just after they had a new shipment and I couldn't help myself. I bought :

Gtna Why Not
Blc. Hawaiian Leopard 'Mei-Ling' AM/AOS
Onc. Sweet Sugar 'Million Dollar'
Paphiopedilum Lady Slipper NOID

The garden manager saw my shopping cart and proceeded to tempt me with the poor half dead clearance rack where everything was now a dollar. So I also picked up a NOID phal and two mini NOID phals. Both have some good roots.

Other than the phals, I have no idea how to take care of any of these so I'll have to look up the culture sheets. But I'm pretty excited that my orchid collection is expanding. I really have to stop myself though - I've gone from one to 15 in only two months!!

Great Haul!

Love the Hawaiian Leopard 'Mei Ling' AM/AOS - My Lowes never has that one! The also do not do dollar discount racks - they do half price, then after the plant is half dead they might do 1/4 price...

Try going from 5 to almost 80 in 3 months! I'm SICK, and don't want a cure!

Nice haul. I'd say you're officially addicted, or as we say here, "GEEKED"!
Our Lowes here in Ocala FL will occasionally get some good ones in, but you've gotta hit it like you when the shipment arrives, and apparently thats a state secret because even my garden mgr. can't tell me. I used to go 3-4 times a week to check but I cut that out 'because other employees were starting to think I worked there
Cheers,
Tony

Nice haul! I wish my Lowes would carry some Paphs.
A cool little tidbit if you didn't know already, keep your receipt for the plants and if any of them die within a year you can get your money back. Just bring the dead plant orchid and receipt with you. This works for any live plant from Lowes

That works for Home Depot also, although I've never done it I've been in line and witnessed it happening !

does the plant have to be in it's original container to get the refund? I usually repot all my plants as soon as I get them home.

I do feel like an official geek now! But I can't imagine getting 80 in three months - I don't think I have the room!

I did know that Lowes have a one year guarantee thanks (although I didn't when my first phal died). But I got the only phap, why not and leopard and they only had one other sweet sugar. I'm sure if I had to return any of these I would only be able to replace them with phals. Must try hard not to kill them!!

I'm not sure. I would probably save the barcode off the pot or just keep the original container for somewhere else to be safe.

Thanks That was the one I almost put back! But once I got it home and the sun shone through those cute little red petals - I was so glad I didn't!

Good find! I found a few sale orchids this weekend myself... I am shocked that as soon as there are not flowers they throw them into the sale bin... I am learning to be patient
Also my collection started with a gift and turned into about 15 in a month or two as well, I always said "if I have to take care of one, whats a few more" haha! Good luck!

I was going to start a new thread, but thought this was so appropriate to the subject here I just added, hope you don't mind. A quick trip to my local LOWES yesterday netted me 3 nice Named Paphs. This is the only one in bloom so far, the others have buds just getting ready to open. I got them for under 13 bucks each, couldn't beat that. I was really happy to time this visit right, the plant mgr. (whom I bug fairly regularly), told me they came in Thurs, so luck was with me this time. They don't often get Paphs here. They had a few nice blooming Onc. and a mini catt or two in bud, but this was enough for one haul@
Cheers,
Tony

Oooohhh - very nice otis 226 !! My phap didn't have a name tag but the pot/label etc look exactly like yours so I suspect it had one at some point. Too bad it's now a NOID but as my first phap I love it anyway! It sounds like your Lowes had a similar delivery to mine!

On a sad note the extra breeze from the passing hurricane blew my onc off the plant rack. It's pot broke but even worse it's flower stem broke off. Guess I'll have to take really good care of it so that I can enjoy it's blooms in the future.

I'm really sorry to hear about the wind knocking your plant down and breaking the pot and bloom spike. That's a shame. We've been having quite a bit of wind yesterday and today from the passing storm, I guess, and the humidity has been higher than even normal for us. Very little chance of rain in the forcast as well, so the outdoor plants will have to be checked well for dryness later on.
I'm sure your Onc. will make a comeback and use some of the energy it saved from supporting those blooms in new growth for an even better show next year.
Good Growing,
Tony
