Those are aerial roots. Roots have that white look and a green rounded tip. Spikes will start out with kind of a mitten look and be green. I have roots that grow straight up like that too.

Yeah, those are roots. The plants look healthy though, spikes will come eventually!

yep, big fat happy plant. and it could start putting out spikes anywhere from october thru february, so you may get something yet.

You can tell they're roots by watering them...especially since they're long enough to have developed velum. When you water them, they will turn green. Spikes won't do that.
