Look what I did :)

Hopefully this was as much from curiosity as boredom, but I went ahead and bid on 2 flasks of 'chid seedlings on ebay, and won them both, (momma always told me to be careful what you wish for ).
I got a 'contaminated' flask of Encyclia tampensis x tampense alba, and a flask of Cycnoches cooperi. I've had tampensis on my w.l. for a long while now, and if any of these tiny guys survive, they should be normal looking and just be heterozygous for alba, which is fine, since I don't ever intent to bred them, (never say never?)
So, I rinsed the yucky agar off them as well as I could and here they be. They'll be kept warm, (hot, actually) and very humid and we'll see what happens. I did not think I'd be fooling with just - deflasked seedlings but it may be fun, especially if they grow faster than bigger orchids.

As a bonus, the seller sent me another 'contaminated' flask of Sophronitis cernua. I asked it about the significance of the flasks being contaminated, and was told that essentially it meant the plants couldn't be replated, but should be fine with some luck. They were all soaked in SA-20, as the others were and if I get one or two of these little gals to grow, I'll do the dance of joy. I know they're tiny plants even when blooming size, but what I really like is that they should enjoy our hot, moist conditions down here, unlike the other members of the tribe. Here's what the others looked like before he sprung 'em!
I'll keep you posted.

You are a very brave, patient man I have Sophronitis cernua and can't wait for mine to bloom. I don't have that kind of patience that's why I gave up on the seedlings and started going with plants in bloom or spike.

Thanks, everyone for looking. At my age, I guess I'm more of an optimist than I figured... trying to raise orchids from this stage, but figured I had to try at least once to see how difficult or easy it is. As someones sig once stated, "When you know Nothing... Anything is possible"

Very well said, Tony.

Plus, if you're successful in raising several, you could potentially make some money back by selling a few to other orchid enthusiasts

Hi good luck with them, one of the best lessons in learning how to grow orchids come from learning how to grow these babys.

If hygene if kept at a premium and not overwater all should go well.
In a couple of years you should have some very nice flowering plants.
keep us informed and keep up the good work

Good luck with the babies
The bowls have drainage ?
I got some Phals coming from hausermans (flask) should be ere on the 26th will be my first actual de flask ... Where I get my others they are already done I just have to split em up and pot em up.only thing that scares me is they are coming UPS they don't ship priority mail I hope they aren't jumbled and a mess. But I've wanted to replace a phal I had a while back and haven't found one until now but a flask of them lol so that works !!!
Good luck again!!
