Lady Slipper

As I'm fairly new to orchids, I might be wrong or change my mind but so far, the odds are that the Lady Slipper orchid is my favorite and luckily for me, the easiest to maintain in the warm, humid climate of Florida.

Anton, if you read this....I tried taking the photo as you suggested with a half ply of tissue. I just didn't get what you were suggesting because when I tried this, I wasn't able to focus the subject at all!!!! I'll have to go back and re-read what you instructed but no dice yet!

Here's my latest, still blooming. Just beautiful in person......

OK, the camera is reading the background light which is brighter than your subject.

What you have to do is either over ride the camera's lightmeter and over expose the background, or, if your camera has a facility for accommodating for "back light" activate that.

This is where manual handling helps give pictures that on auto you just can't get. Your concept is good though.

Make sure that the tissue doesn't cover anything but the flash, sometimes you can inadvertantly cover the lightmeter, which on some cameras is just a small hole near the flash.

Practice makes perfect.

OK Anton, I'll be doing lots of practicing with your instructions here. In the meantime, it just was upsetting me how I wasn't able to capture what I was seeing. Moved the orchid to a different setting and wha-la!

Thanks again and now you can see how beautiful this flower is. (The non-flower here is me!)

Sandy

Hi sandra 4453, nice photos.

Anton is undoubtedly a great teacher

Btw, the non-flower is as pretty as or prettier than the flower

Sandra, they are pictures I would be proud of, I'll send a private posting to let you know how can even improve of them. It is a compositional thingy, minor, but helps. Well done.

Well I can see three PETALS there.
