Superthrive question

Hey fellow geeks...

Wondering what you guys know about Superthrive.

I have tried to research it but gotten no where. The package is full of outrageous claims with tons of different colors and font. I found a few other forums that claim to have tested it and they say that it does nothing extra.

Somewhere here I read that some people were using it. Wondering if I should bother with it. Being a worried father to my chids, I don't want to give them anything that might hurt them or do nothing at all.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I've used it with mixed results. I actually prefer using Dyna-Gro KLN over SuperThrive as I feel it is a more reputable product. Here is a handy analysis I found online of someone else's experimentation with the subject. Hopefully it will give you a better insight into the subject Rooting Hormones

hi ChampagneOrchid, superthrive is like a vitamin boost. If you smell it it's like baby vitamins, lots of B. I use it as a supplement when I root, along with products made for rooting, and as a pick-me-up for when things are looking tired or stressed. You are right, the claims are outrageous, but, it has never let me down....

I use SuperThrive in all of my watering excep once a month to drain the poting medium.
The plants have been reacting well to the product and plants who were previously always watered with plain old city water has been growing roots like crazy. Might be the new care, might be the SuperThrive. But has normal water is low in some minerals and vitamins it is an addition that cannot be bad in resonnable quantities. AKA few drops a gallon and not an once like the bottle says.
Why change a method that work for me? So even if other people talk about more effective product, I keep to that one! My plants are growing like monster as it is anyway!

Seems like most plant people love superthrive and use it unquestioningly. I admit to loving the outrageous claims it makes on its advertising. (Kind of like W.C. Fields should be the CEO of the company ) I honestly think that using liquid seaweed is a much better option. Or you can take 2-3 tablets of B-12, crush them up and make a solution with that. Strain it through cheescloth, and spray that on your plants. At least you'll know what they're getiing. Plus, anyplace I've seen it sold, its usually kept in 90-100 degree temps. so any B complex they've put in there is long since deactivated by the time you purchase it. Any product like superthrive that feels the need to keep its ingredients 'secret' doesn't need me as a customer.
Cheers,
Tony

Thanks for the link to the old post. I was looking for one but my search didn't come back with any hits.

After reading the posts in this and the other thread, it seems as though the worst superthrive can do is result in deformed flowers (pretty bad I know, but at least the plants live). I am going to give it a shot on a few rescues that i'll be getting and see if it spurs on any new root growth after repotting.

Thanks for the input!

I believe it helps a little, not at all as much as claimed for the product. It seems to help plants doing poorly. Can't say for healthy plants. I use it very sparingly, a couple of drops to a gallon of water. I agree with Otis and Bearded orchid, liquid seaweed and Dyna-Gro KLN are vry good also. (Seaweed can grow a foot a day).

I've used it...didn't really notice any difference. Can't stand the smell!

I use liquid seaweed now. Can't say that I've seen any radical difference w/the seaweed either but at least the label tells me what I'm putting in that water vs what the ST label tells me. (which is nothing.) BTW - can't stand the smell of the seaweed either. I don't use it too often...just w/new arrivals in the soak water and maybe once a month otherwise. Perhaps if I used it more often, I'd see more.

I can put up with the slightly fishy odor of l.s., especially compared with fish emulsion...YUCH! Anyhow, I think a once a week spritz is doing many of my plants good. Heres an Onc. that I rescued about 5-6 weeks ago that was really dried out and looking bad, after a once a week spray on the foilage and medium surface the roots are coming on strong. Also a dend that is putting out new growth while still in bloom. I know this isn't a miracle, but for me, its all good indications that I will continue to use it. Sorry for the blurry roots
Cheers,
Tony

I've used superthrive for years...particularly on young or recently repotted orchids. I think I am getting better results with Fertilome Root Stimulator though. I added that to my mix a couple years ago and my orchids appeared to have a lot more root production from what I was used to. Has a bit of fertilizer in it too.
