Dendroubium nobile repotting

Hi all,

Couple of days back I got a dendrobium nobile in full bloom. The potting medium is completely broken down and is potted in sphagnum moss covered with bark on top of it. I do not know whether it is OK if I repot it immediately or not. Am I required to wait till the blooms fade? I am worried that the roots might rot.

Please advise.

Thank you

Amul

I would repot, I don't think it will affect the bloom (some plants do blast when repotted) and I think it's better to have the plant bloom next year anyway rather than lose the whole plant to rot. If it's completely broken down then go for it.

I don't think it's a problem.

Thank you Bolero. I am also thinking the same but was reading online that a nobile needs to be repotted sometime in spring when it starts new growth. Since we are into summer here in California it would be wrong time to repot. But I am planning to go ahead and repot it tomorrow. I already presoaked medium bark mix.

Do you think it will be totally shocked?

Thank you

No I don't. I think if you give it a little extra shade initially when you repot I doubt it will be shocked at all. I repot mine in early summer and have never had a problem.

If you have doubts about the roots then repot, give it a little extra shade if it's outside (I wouldn't worry if it's inside) and it should be happier. In fact I would imagine that growth will take off if you repot it with a fresh mix. It's amazing how excited plants can be with new potting mix..........
