Color of Phal roots

I would like to know if anyone uses the color of the roots to help them know when it is time to water your Phals? I grow my Phals in clear pots, so it easy to see what is going on with the roots etc. I have noticed that when it starts to get near to watering time the roots begin to take on more of the silver color of the air roots. When they are watered they return to their nice green color. Has anyone else taken note of this? Watering has always been a challange, and I know there are alot of differant ways to judge when it is time to water, and I thought this may be one more. What does everyone think. Thanks

Dale

Yep, I definitely look at the roots through my clear pots to see what's goin' on before watering

Do the roots ever go to full silver? I have never let them go this far. I am sure the roots in the middle of the pot are still more moist than the ones on the outside, so it may be ok to do this.

Typically only aerial roots that become highly negleceted (guilty )
But provided the roots are in the substrate they should not turn full silver, unless bone dry. The roots located in the center of the pot usually do take longest to dry out which becomes a common attribute to roots rot if overwatered.
