Wanna take a stab at it?

I got this little one back in April. It has put out a couple leafs since. I noticed a little nub growing off of it a few days ago. Because it is so young I don't want to get my hopes up but what do you think? Spike maybe keiki? It is definately not a root.

At first I would have guessed a root, but the third picture looks like a young leaf to me now. I'd guess a Keiki. I'm still new though so just some guesses

Edgy...I thought it looked like a root at first. The pic is not quite clear but I can kinda see a 'slit' at the end. I could look like a 'mitten' which would be a spike. Sooooo...my guess is a spike. Good job

There is a split a the end....it came to me in a 2.5-3in pot as a seedling.....Are they capable of blooming that small?

I think it could be a spike, and less probably a kieki. Congrats either way!

The tag reads Phal. violacea (Malaysia x var. Borneo) x self.....it is supposed to be a summer bloomer. I just never expected it to be this soon. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I would say spike. I was given a keiki of equestris that was fresh off of the spike last fall and it has been blooming for a couple of months now. Congrats.

With violacea var. Borneo now bellina, this is a Phal. Samera.

At this stage in my game...I really don't concern myself with the taxonomy of it all. I like to know that the plant is tagged and tagged accurately but aside from that, it bores me. What I do know is that Phal Samera, photo 1, and My Phal, Photo 2, are two totally different looking flowers providing mine looks like what the grower represented......on another note, it is looking like a mitten now. I can confidently say it is a spike!

There will be variations with appearance of flowers in a hybrid. Brooke has posted photos of her Phal Samera, and it looks different than the two photos you provided. Whether you care about the taxonomy or not, if you want the plant tagged correctly, it is Phal Samera. Phal violacea var borneo is no longer recognized as violacea, it is bellina.

Can't wait to see what you flower looks like in the future

given that the spike is only about a cm in length at this point......any estimates on how long it will take before I see flowers?

both bellina and violacea bloom on short spikes, and hold the same spikes for years. Therefore you may see a bud soon

So these will keep their spikes???? Great! About the same time, just a couple weeks prior, I got bellina and violacea. They are still too small to bloom. I expect maybe next year for them
