Question What's this thingy?

My white phal noid is very happy right now. Has the new spike & two new root nubs The spike looks good but it has this odd little thingy. At first I thought it might be branching, but doesn't it look kind of like a leaf? Could this be the beginnings of a keiki?

It might be a little keiki!
If it is you are lucky! Not every phal make babies without a little push!
Let it grow and keep watch!

Oh cool!!! I can't wait hear what comes out of that node! I'm particularly interested because a node on my Phal's old flower stem is widening like that. A keiki would wonderful but a second flower stem would be great too! Keep us posted!!

It definitely looks like it could be one! I've got a Phal noid in keiki but it produced one off a dormant node after flowering. Yours is still growing! My little baby does have some curly subleaves shooting off of it so it's very possible. I'm rooting for you!

All the pics I've seen are like yours or they are the basal keiki. It threw me because of where this is growing. I had cut the old spike back to the 3rd node up after it had finished blooming. It didn't take long to produce the spike. I've been watching this thing on the spike grow for about a week or so, and the spike is still growing! Maybe I'll get a keiki AND blooms

Agreed. That is a bummer. Maybe you should get another orchid or three to cheer you up?
