| Upgrade of Green House
Under Antons tutalege I have made some modifications to the little green house. I started off using the seed germination tray but there was virtually no humidity. After consulting with the above, I have gone up market and purchased a aquarium warmer, which is set on 26 degrees (82 in the old language) I can set this from 20 to 34 degrees (70 to 94) so it gives me some scope to work with.I intend to drill holes in the lid and utilize that. The night temperature sits on around 14 degrees (58) I had some concerns with the amount of condensation, but the whether Gods must be smiling on me today. Twenty degrees in the green house and all is good with the world. Please add any info which I can use...or..if I can be of any assistance dont be frightened to ask. Regards......AL |

what are your plans about air circulation? do you have any? because the condensation wouldn't be a problem if you had a small fan in there, at the moment im actually looking around my house for the best spot i could put one of these, i dont think that a compot of 20 once they are de-compotted, plus however many other between then and now, plus my violacea, will be able to fit in my room next year.

Turn your room into a greenhouse and sleep outside

I have been told that the build up of condensation is a problem and it is early days for me. Once the sun was over the yard arm...say 9 oclock this morning I unzipped the two sides and allowed in the fresh air. Took about 30 minutes and it was gone. Just had a look tonight...temperature on 16 degrees with the flap unzipped by a third and no condensation. This could change as evening goes into night and I will be interested to see what happens. I can assure you I will not be out with a torch at 3 o'clock in the morning, will wait until daylight and then evaluate the side show. A computer fan has been suggested for air circulation so we will see. Regards.......AL |

| hahaha, so very tempting, but i think the carpet would get a bit mouldy and i don't think mum would appreciate that very much, but im so jealous of my older brother, his room has a door that opens right onto our varanda and it would be perfect for growing heaps of orchids

My suggestion would be to put the tray on the floor rather than half way up, because you'll end up with all the cold air sitting in the bottom being held down by the warmth up top. On the bottom, it will warm up the whole GH better.

I'm with anton move the heater down. Also those fish tank heaters I see you got a submergable one good idea. But make sure the evaporation doesn't expose the glass part when hot above the water line. Hate to see crack and zap happen. Good luck with this project!

* It was lonely! * Don't they look nice together? * Since I've already spent the money on creating a perfect environment, it would be a shame to let all that space go to waste! * I got it with my eBay Bucks! * It was on sale! (a red pen to change the price tag is very handy) * I won it on the raffle table at the orchid society meeting! (Join first) * If I have more, then I'm more likely to have something in bloom at all times, so you can enjoy them, honey! * This one is for you! * This one is named after you! (you might need a spare tag to pull this one off!) * I'll stop when this thing is filled (now, use this one with caution, because this is the orchid addicts #1 lie) After that, you may have to come to some other agreement, because once you fill that thing and decide you need more (like most of the rest of us have) you will just have to start buying her things, too.

At least I am not alone!..however, jokes aside, I will not, repeat, NOT, be purchasing any more orchids until I sort the little green house ventilation out. Down to Adelaide later this week and see if I can get a computer fan. Seeing the photos I posted, where would the best place for the fan? Floor level or higher? Regards...........AL |

Allen, go our club Web site; South Australian Orchidaceous Society for details I am the Web Master and updating it at present, I was ill for a lot of last year, so some of the meeting details are incorrect and still showing last year's agenda, but it shows a Google Map of location and times etc. which are correct. I will soon be adding an article on Bulbophillums on the site for all interested and will put a notification here once it is up.

Thank you Michael, it was easy, made on a Mac with iWeb. Is your Home page supposed to be blinking ? If so, sorry, I found it very distracting and hard to read, you need people to read your site and be guided into it, and with it flashing, I think you'll find the opposite. I have been working on Web sites over the past 20 years, and started back in the days where we made the entire site with HTML code without programs like Dreamweaver, so talking from experience here. I had a few personal health issues last year, and carried onto this year, which meant I wasn't able to keep the site up to date, but now starting to do some more work on it to get it up to date. The rest of the info you have is quite good, and you can only grow into the site.

thanks anton, im only a new member of this society and not the creator of the website, no it isn't meant to be flashing and im tempted to buy the creator of the site a mac, or atleast let them borrow mine, i would sudgest doing the website some time down the line (when im not so much of a newbie to the society), but i would have to learn how to use a program because i only know HTML code anyways better not bag out my society so, i agree that there is some great info, its just the format of the site, and you two be sure to let us know how the meeting goes.
