Question Flowering from Old Spikes

Hey!

I've been doing some research on some of my newer orchids and I read on Orchid Web that Phal. javanica will re-bloom from old flower spikes in subsequent years.

How do I know which plants will do this and which wont? I don't want to cut off a spike if the plant will re-bloom from it in the future.

I feel like that's an easy answer...I don't cut a spike until it decides to completely dry out on it's own. Many species Phals will rebloom off of the same spike for years, and there are also some hybrids that will carry this trait as well.

So basically if the spike dries up cut it off and if not, leave it? That is easy. Thanks.

That's my personal opinion, however there are many people that will cut any Phal hybrid spikes back once they have finished flowering. I just make it easier on myself and let each plant do their own thing. I figure they know when they're done with the spike.
